Space Economy is a cross-sector and multidisciplinary industry. Incredible new business opportunities are emerging not only for innovative and start-up companies but also for traditional companies. Technologies developed for Space activities will have an high impact on tradigional markets. The Mars City is a hub where research, technology and know-how come together to seize these opportunities.

MARS CITY wants to become a reference point in the Space industry. It’s a sector that will radically change the economy of the planet Earth as never before.

We are a research centre and, at the same time, an across-the-board network in the entire supply chain, within which we bring new technologies, skills and processes, to attract the best minds and the leading international companies.

The most pragmatic aspect of project is the development of technical and strategic ideas and solutions that will give rise to patents and will make it possible to develop new businesses.

Nowaday in Europe, a private leadership of the Space industry has not yet been established. It’s not too late to take this position and it is not too early to start thinking about it. This is the right time.

A brand new analog environment: the Space area

The Space analogs are the beating heart of the hub.  Simulators are available to simulate a manned space mission in a lunar or Martian environment. Space labs allow you to operate under the same restrictions as a space station. Mars City provides tools, technologies, and procedures for testing space-related systems. The simulations accelerate the products and services development in fields like medicine, robotics, biotechnology, and sociology. Thanks to the presence of living modules, the analogs can host missions that last for periods ranging from some weeks to some months. Many studies can be conducted about Space psychology, privacy, and behavior. Companies and researchers can monitor the activities through control rooms remaining at the center of the City.

Mars Simulator

The Mars analog is composed of a unique dome in which is located a Mars Station where astronauts can live and conduct different experiments. A Mars alike regolith around the area can be used to test extravehicular activities and robotics exploration of Mars. The dome of the Mars analog will be equipped with systems able to simulate Mars wind and temperature, to host experiments on dust and environmental protection.

Lunar Simulator

The Moon analog has a pressurized environment with special instrumentation for Space medicine experiments, to test future pressurized habitats on the moon. Another laboratory to test 3d printing technology for moon exploration application, study on moon materials, radiation protection techniques, and space telecommunications tests.

Their cylindrical modules aim to provide the same environment that astronauts experience in the Space Stations. These labs are flexible and can host many different experiments ranging from tests on systems and apparatuses to agriculture and telemedicine.

Settle at the center of Space innovation!

Space Architecture is the core of the Mars City project. In the Mars City research framework we want to explore, test, disseminate all the potential related to the Studies and applications of Space Architecture

Among different programs related to AR/VR to undertake training sessions, V-MARS has the main goal of providing a practical testbed for field operation studies to prepare human-crewed missions to Mars and Moon. The program foresees an immersive virtual reality simulation of the Mars City Station. The program includes the development of VR treadmills which are currently distributed under the trademark Mars Virtual Systems.
 
It aims to achieve adequate power generation and storage in Mars and Moon replicated conditions. It must demonstrate sustained and robust performances at least over the reference surface mission’s lifespan. The output is to assess long term performances of In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) technologies, including Sabatier reactors for Mars.
 
Space Medicine plays a crucial role in improving the understanding of human health in Space and how to treat potential illnesses. As a branch of Space Medicine, Telemedicine will disrupt both Space and on Earth health services. It will be focused on interactions with telecommunication systems and healthcare protocols for crewed missions. Special attention will be given to astronauts training, emerging technologies as 5G, long-distance communication system as well as medical devices for Space usage.
 
 
The research aims to define crew safety, health, and productivity, Figures of Merit (FoM), and human factors standard requirements and specifications for human exploration of Space. It includes reviews of habitats design, construction, and testing to assess compliance with human performance-based standards.
 
 
 
Hardware and automation are essential for Space exploration and colonization. It regards surface exploration suits, rovers, hardware components, tools development, with a special focus on swarm robotics and robotics for short-range Extravehicular Activities.
 
Within a complete simulation environment of the command, control & communication system, the research provides the possibility of identifying breakthrough management concepts and technology to support interfaces, information flow and sharing, management, control, operations, procedures, and human-machine interfaces in Space.
 
 
3D printing techniques are crucial for approaching Space: the interest is focused on objects necessary for autonomous living and production of technical parts. To use 3D printers in Space is essential to guarantee a long term human settlement. The research field includes simulation of the most relevant physical-chemical regenerative and bio-regenerative life support systems through material science.
 
 
The ecological aspect of Space exploration is assessed for multidisciplinary objectives. The research aims to effectively validate procedures that incorporate Planetary Protection in sample collection and bio-material storage to study life in Space.
 
 
Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) are essential to guarantee an optimal management and reuse of water, foods, waste in Space. Applications include water treatment on Earth and CO2 capture and utilization. Other activities focus on designing new cultivation techniques for vertical and greenhouse factories and food production technologies in Space.
